PAR stands for “Parabolic Aluminized Reflector” The number following denotes the size of the bulb, not the light output. A PAR38 bulb is a large bulb at 4 3/4”. We carry a range of LED PAR38 bulbs including both non-dimmable and dimmable PAR38 LED bulbs from 680 lumens to 1200 lumens.
LED lighting technology is improving at a rapid rate. Three years ago, LED lumens per watt from major manufacturers averaged around 60 to 70 lm per watt. Today, many manufacturers have units that exceed 100 lm per watt, and the technology continues to improve. As the efficiency of the LED and its ability to render color increase, the price of the product goes up accordingly. All LED chips are not created equal. The higher-quality LEDs command a higher price in the market, so, the more you spend, the better LED lights you will get. A new term in lighting has been coined: dollars per lumen.LED lights began as a directional light source as it was very difficult to disperse the beam of an LED light. Advances in LED optics and reflectors now allow LED lights to be used in area lighting applications.
